Testing out writing a blog as a new user.

Our little big boy

It's so hard to see Eddie growing up so fast! I want to cradle him like a baby, but more and more I let him do things on his own. It's hard not to baby him. I know it's for his own good.

Here are some things that Eddie does somewhat independently:

Hangs up his jacket (with help sometimes)
Does his home work
This weekend, started making his bed
Cleans up his toys and puts them where they belong, without help
Gets dressed with some help

Puts on his shoes on his own
Gets undressed for his shower, puts dirty clothes in hamper and shoes back in his shoe shelf

Gets in and out of the shower on his own
Washes himself (I make sure he is clean and do a second wash if needed)
Dries himself
Cleans his ears with a Q-tip (supervised of course)
Brushes his teeth
Tries to floss his teeth
Asks us if we washed our hands when we go to the bathroom
Turns off the lights when he goes from one room to the next.
Cleans up spills after himself.
Grabs his own snacks, opens them, serves himself
Picks up his dishes and puts them in the appropriate place after eating
When heading out to work: I leave the house to get in the car, before Eddie does. If dad is still inside the house, Eddie will close the front doors, get in the car, close the car door and buckle himself in his car seat.
Makes his own sandwich when he comes home from school
Tries to serve his own drink
Tries to zip up his jacket (still needs help, but really wants to do it on his own)
Helps me put groceries away


Then, the other day we were leaving Grandma and Grandpa's house, when grandma asked me to wait for some food she was going to pack for us. Eddie continued to walk out and said "Mama, I'm leaving. Are you coming with me or not?"

Ha ha ha!

Eddie's updates

It's not that I don't want to write about Eddie anymore, it's just that this Blogger site really gives me a difficult time when it comes to uploading photos. The more I try to navigate through how to fix the problem, the more lost I get. If you are a mom, you know getting lost in the internet is not a practical idea. I love to post blogs that coincide with a photo; it's like a story book with pictures :) So, I have been saving the photos in my phone and hoping that when I get home, I will have a good minute to work on the blog. Of course, that never happens once I get home because I am working or spending time with Eddie. I am going to make time tomorrow to post a blog and some pictures of Eddie.

Spending time with Eddie

Eddie's class had a thanksgiving celebration at school on Friday.

As I say in the video, I am trying to socialize Eddie little more, by taking him to places where there are other kids. Sure, he goes to school, but there isn't much play time for the kids at school. He needs to play with other kids.

Today, the intersection to the freeway that takes us home was completely stopped. I ended up taking a detour that starts at the same freeway that we take to go to dad's work. Eddie asked me if we were going to dad's work and when I told him we weren't, he said he wanted to see his dad. So, I called dad and asked if we could meet up for lunch. Dad was available, which means we were able to spend some moments with him.

After lunch, on the way home, I spontaneously took Eddie to the movie theater. I've been thinking for a few months now that I should take him to the theater at about 1 pm (when it's empty) and just sit with him as long as he can. I am hoping this will help him learn to sit still and watch a movie. Unfortunately, I chose one that really didn't capture his interest and caused him to get sleepy. Not the mention that we had to sit through about 30 minutes of boring previews and commercials! Maybe we've just been so spoiled at home fast forwarding through all that, that I no longer have patience for them. Anyway, I hope to do this more often.

Being a good boy

As I said, Eddie wasn't interested in Wreck it Ralph, so we went a few feet down the shopping center to this place where I really want to have Eddie's next birthday party. The problem is, that you can't rent the place out for a private party. This means that there would be strangers and BIG heavy teens at his birthday party....that is the only thing that is holding me back from throwing the party there...any thoughts???

She was laying on the trampoline while Eddie jumped next to her. She loved it, but this guy told them to stop hahaha!

Some memories to jot down

Well, Eddie has been through some roller coaster moments. He's really good and then suddenly, he will do something EXTRA bratty and out of character.

The other day, Eddie's teacher told me that she was surprised at Eddie because she asked him to do something and he yelled at her that he wasn't GOING TO!

Sometimes at home, Eddie can be explosive. I try to act calm and tell him to take breaks or walk away from things that he wants to control, but can't.

Several times now though, he runs into his room, throws himself on the floor and just cries. When he does this, I just let him have his moment. Later on, I will walk in and ask him if he is ok. One time, when this was happening, he told me, while still crying, "I gave myself a time out!"

The other day, when Eddie and I were home alone, Eddie asked me "When is dad coming home?" I told him that dad would be home later. Then, I asked Eddie if he wanted to call dad. Without looking up from what he was doing, Eddie answered "No. He's at work."

On Saturday, we were getting ready to head out to Family Day at dad's workplace. Eddie was having his breakfast in his pajamas, when he asked me "Where are we going?" I said "We're going to PAPA'S WORK!!!! :D " Eddie thought about it for a second or two, then he said "Mama, I'm not wearing pajamas to dad's work!" Later, while I was showering, dad said that Eddie got up from the table, walked to his room and started to dress himself (something he rarely does, because he doesn't like to get ready when he is in his pajamas.)

I've been going to the gym early in the mornings and usually by the time I come home, Eddie is still asleep. Of course, there are some days when Eddie wakes up earlier than normal. One day Eddie said, out of the blue, "Mom, I don't like it when you go to the gym." It blew me away! But then, I responded; "But if I don't go to the gym, how am I going to be strong and climb with you at the playgrounds?"  He thought about it for a while and hasn't mentioned it since.

Eddie enjoys using Siri on my iPhone. He knows how to voice command to call his dad and has also programmed Siri to learn that when he says "call my grandma", it's for "Martha" on my call list.

Eddie's Halloween Parade at school

I am having a hard time posting more images than these. So here is what I have for now. I might post some more later :)

Last week Friday, Eddie's school had a Hallowen carnival and parade. Dad, Grandma and Mama Cochita came by to see Eddie. Eddie was so happy to see us at his school!

 

Tonight Eddie handed out Candy and fully enjoyed watching kids in costumes.

Eddie at the dentist!!!

Eddie had his 6 month dentist appointment today. It was the first time he has ever had a cleaning. I wasn't sure how he was going to react, so I prepped him as much as I could; telling him what to expect. Just as I told him it would happen, it did.

Also, he has NO cavities and the dentist congratulated all of us on his beautiful teeth! :)

Ferris wheel and pumpkin patch

Eddie finished all of his weekly homework on Thursday.
I promised I would take him to the ferris wheel as he loves to do!

After that, we went to the local pumpkin patch. I can safely say, Eddie is a happy kid.

Eddie's weekend in photos

We went to Disneyland, on Friday night, for Mickey's Halloween party.

Here are our costumes: Masquerade/mardi gras inspired by The "New Orleans" section (adventure land) of Disneyland. 

Eddie was so excited to wear his costume and he did keep it on most of the night. We came home with so much candy!

Eddie got on Star Tours and ENJOYED IT SO MUCH! He kept saying WEEEEEEEEEE!

Then, Eddie fell asleep at 8 pm.  :( :( He missed dancing with Goofy and Pluto :(

Saturday, dad took us to our city's fire station "pancake breakfast" prepared by firemen.
It was the first time in a LONG time that we were all out and about by 9 am on a weekend.

Eddie putting out a fire with the water hose. Actually, it was just pictures of fire, inside of squares that flipped down when you hit them with the water hose stream of water. Eddie knocked them down in no time.
He's has good aim thanks to grandpa teaching him how to water plants. 

After breakfast, we went to the mall and we ran into ELMO!

I love weekends for Eddie :)
